Andrew Miller MP, chair of the House of Commons science and technology select committee, has announced that he will stand down at the next general election.

Dr Mark Downs, chief executive of the Society of Biology, says: “The science and engineering community owe Andrew a huge debt of gratitude for his insight, perseverance and commitment to helping the UK stay at the forefront of science. He is passionate about science and engineering, and is a great example of how members of parliament can have significant positive impact on the science agenda. We wish him well for the future and look forward to continuing to work with him until the next election.”

In his time on the science and technology select committee, Miller has worked closely with the Society of Biology on events for which we have been key organisers. He has spoken at events such as the Biology Week reception, fielded questions from young scientists in Voice of the Future, chaired the SET for BRITAIN poster competition organising group, and co-hosted the largest science event in Parliament’s calendar – Parliamentary Links Day.
