We provide careers resources for teachers and careers advisers in schools and universities through the UK. Below are some of the free downloadable resources.

Secondary school resources

Students can find out about careers support for different areas of biology in our new reference guides.

New careers teaching resources for teachers to use in lessons, including presentations to help their students in Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 learn more about options open to them in the biosciences.

The Becoming a Biologist: Degrees and Careers in Biology booklet contains information on different types of biological degree and their alternatives, qualifications you will need to study them, skills gained from biological studies, and advice about careers you can do after graduating.

The Bioscience Careers Resource Sheet for Schools contains links to careers websites and career pathways in biology as well as information on student competitions aimed at young biologists.

An online resource of technicians careers profiles also highlights the diverse range of careers available in the biosciences.                          

The Russell Group has launched a new interactive website aimed at supporting pupils in finding out more about subject choice and the impact that A levels (or equivalent) could have on their degree options. Find out more on the Informed Choices website.

IntoBiology supports UK biology students aged between 17 and 21, with science news, careers guidance, and study skills support.

Spotlight on the Life Sciences is a guide to biology careers featuring a collection of articles and interviews from The Biologist magazine. It covers a broad range of bioscience fields.

Teaching academics resources

The Society has developed a higher education teaching career progression framework to support academics wanting to progress on a teaching focused career route. 

Returners to work resources

The Society has established a 'Returners to Biosciences' group, as well as collating a wealth of useful resources for those returning to work after a career break.

Other careers resources

The National STEM Learning Network has a searchable database of careers resources, which brings together several existing catalogues of STEM careers materials.

Launched in June 2023, the Green Careers Hub is a resource to inform and inspire anyone on how they can play a role in greening the economy and be part of the solution to climate change.

STEM Graduates is a recruitment agency working with scientists and listing jobs that are suitable for recent biology graduates.

Science Careers, from the peer-reviewed academic journal Science, provides tools for starting and developing your career as well as a worldwide jobs board and information on graduate programmes.

Wellcome Sanger Institute have created a range of careers videos covering scientific roles, and supporting roles such as communications, legal, HR and design. These vidoes can be found here
