A new Concordat on openness on animal research is being developed, and the Society of Biology is one of a large number of organisations taking part in its development, which is being led by Understanding Animal Research (UAR). The draft Concordat has now been made available, and will remain online for six weeks so that the public can have their say.

The intention is that signatories to the Concordat will pledge to be clear about how, when and why animals are used in research, and be proactive about keeping the public informed about animal testing. UAR is hosting the consultation survey on its website and is encouraging scientists and the wider public to add their views on the proposals for the Concordat text.
