A visit to Dungeness Shingle Beach in Kent

Event outline

Members will be delighted to have the opportunity again to visit this unique location. Dr Brian Ferry, from Royal Holloway, University of London, an expert in this field, will be our guide.

We shall see the plant succession along 50 ridges which show 500 years of sequential change. We shall also examine the vegetation of a disturbed area of shingle with a great range of plant species and vegetation types. There will also be opportunity for a little entomology when we examine the catch in the previous night's moth-traps. As the visit will occupy some of the afternoon, members are advised to bring packed lunches.

Attendees are to meet near the Lydd to Dungeness Road/Kerton Road junction and there is off-road parking adjacent. The map reference is TR 083188.
