An online webinar from the Foundation for Science and Technology

Event outline

In July, the Government published the R&D Roadmap, setting out ambitious plans for investing in research and securing the benefits for the economy. A key element of this is the promise of an R&D Place Strategy, to be published later in 2020, designed to unlock local growth and societal benefit across the UK.

As the R&D Roadmap is the first policy document from the new UK Government to include reference to “Levelling up” across different parts of the country this webinar will discuss the role that R&D can contribute to the “levelling up” agenda, the inequalities in R&D funding across the different nations and regions of the UK, and how the focus on place fits within the overall R&D Roadmap.

The event will be chaired by Lord David Willetts FRS, Chairman of the Foundation for Science and Technology, with speakers including:
  • Amanda Solloway MP, Minister for Science, Research and Innovation, UK Government
  • Professor Richard Jones FRS, Chair of Materials Physics and Innovation Policy, University of Manchester
  • Ken Skates MS, Minister for Economy, Transport and North Wales, Welsh Government
