The Francis Crick Institute has launched its strategy, and the Society welcomes the commitment to supporting UK science and scientists.

The strategy states its ambition to pursue discovery without boundaries, to create future science leaders and expand the talent pool, to work effectively with university partners and other collaborators, to focus on translating its science to benefit health and wealth, and to engage and inspire the public.

Dr Mark Downs, chief executive of the Society of Biology, says: "To maintain the UK's world-class science base it is essential to nurture our scientists and to ensure we maximise the benefit of science both for the economy and human wellbeing. It is clear that the Francis Crick Institute is committed to both these visions.

"We share many of its aspirations, including a commitment to inspire the public with the wonders of biology. We look forward to working with the Institute and seeing its strategy unfold."

The Francis Crick Institute, currently under construction near Kings Cross, will be an interdisciplinary medical research institute. Its research areas include why disease develops and new ways to prevent and treat illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and stroke, infections, and neurodegenerative diseases.
