The Society of Biology Book Awards celebrate outstanding textbooks aimed at undergraduates and postgraduates and general biology books. Authors of exceptional books in the fields of the life sciences are encouraged to submit their work.

There are three categories: undergraduate textbook, postgraduate textbook, and general biology book. Each prize is open to traditionally and to self-published books first published in the English language between 1st May 2013 to 30th April 2014, in the UK.

Each of the categories will be judged by a panel of experts in their fields; ranging from research scientists and lecturers to authors, editors and broadcasters. The Society would like to thank the judges: Ian Carter, Dr Lewis Dartnell, Dr Sue Howarth, Dr William Marshall, Dr Clare Miller, Dr Jenny Morton, Martin Redfern, Dr David Slingsby, Connie St Louis and Dr Ian Turner.

Judges of the undergraduate and postgraduate textbook categories will be looking for well written entries that provide a clearly explained summary of the current knowledge and introduce ideas for the future of the research.

The general biology book award is a much broader category. The entries should be accessible, engaging and informative, and written for a non-specialist audience.

The Society of Authors is coordinating the awards. For further information about the Society of Biology Book Awards, contact Sarah Baxter or telephone 020 7373 6642.

If you are an author or publisher, submit entries by Wednesday 30th April 2014.
