Biology Week

Celebrate the Biosciences with Biology Week, 11-19 October 2025

Innovation in biology will help us support all life on Earth now and in the coming decades. Biology Week celebrates and raises the profile of these achievements, and the important work that bioscientists are doing.

We would love to see every biologist celebrate their work with events and activities that appeal to all audiences. Help us achieve our vision of a world that understands the true value of biology and how it can contribute to improving life for all.

Explore our events calendar to see the events and activities that took place in 2024 for inspiration. If you want to plan an event during or around this week, you can download an event planning ideas guide for inspiration.

We will monitor the hashtag #BiologyWeek for posts to share, so use this for any social media content covering biology-related topics or events over the week.

If you have an event during Biology Week that you would like us to help promote, fill in our Biology Week events form and we will add it to our Biology Week calendar.

Organise an event

You don’t have to be a member of the Royal Society of Biology to organise events — we welcome the support of scientists, teachers, and anyone with a passion for biology!

Spelling Bee

Literacy is a key factor in an individual’s success in science exams and during a pupil’s science journey, they encounter a huge number and variety of new words. These words may not be commonly used outside of science classrooms and so pupils may get fewer opportunities to practise accurate spelling of science words.

This event, organised by Jon Hale and supported by RSB grant funding, is fully adaptable to support students and maximise uptake. Teachers can now register their school's students to take part in this year's competition which will take place in the Autumn term of 2025. The competition is open to all students aged 11-19 across the UK, Channel Islands, and Isle of Man.

Register by 16 September.
