This talk will provide an introduction into the ecology and biological importance of ancient trees. This will also be an opportunity to find out more about the Woodland Trust's Ancient Tree Inventory - a citizen science project where members of the public are creating the UK's largest ancient tree dataset. So far the ancient tree inventory has recorded over 14,500 ancient trees, and this talk will provide an opportunity to find out what insights the project has given into the world of ancient trees so far. We will also explain how you can record an ancient tree to the ancient tree inventory too so that you can help us build our collection of significant trees.
Following the talk there will also be a private viewing. A private viewing gives us the opportunity to have the tree all to ourselves and go beyond the protective fence to see Bowthorpe Oak, a tree that is over 1000 years old and one of the oldest in Europe.
Please be aware that the event is on a farm with no facilities and requires walking in a field.
