A Biochemical Society Training Event

Overview

This course introduces both the Python programming language and resources for using it for exploring and analysing biological data in the big data world. Rather than focussing on syntax, the focus will be on how resources can be best put to use to solve problems using Python. The course will introduce data handling and manipulation using the Pandas library, visualisation with the Matplotlib/Pyplot library and machine learning and statistics with the Scikit-learn library. Live demonstrations will be given, as well as an open session.

Participants should know where to start with getting a Python analysis system up and running, and have a set of concrete examples of how to use it. By the end of the course they should be able to install a Python IDE, read data in many formats, and apply some visualisation and analysis techniques. They should most of all know where the resources to proceed further can be found and be ready to do science with Python.
