A course for teachers in schools to support their use of practical work in teaching science
IntroductionPractical science is an important part of the learning process for young people studying Science GCSE. This course will support teachers to improve their skills and understanding in teaching practical science.
Who is the course for?The course is aimed at teachers in schools to support their development for teaching practical science. This course will provide teachers (both newly qualified and those wanting some further familiarisation) with an introduction to the practicals required for GCSE science.
What does the course cover?Participants will be able to practise the practicals required for GCSE science, as well as analysing how to implement them to support students' learning.
Who is the course trainer?Mark Winterbottom is a Senior Lecturer in Science Education at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. Mark joined the Faculty of Education in 2002, and teaches on the Science/Biology secondary PGCE course (for which he also acts as Senior Examiner), as well as supervising Masters and PhD students.
Gail Webdell is a Senior Science Technician for the Secondary PGCE course at the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge. She is also a consultant technician to Science and Plants for Schools, and coordinates the AMGEN Biotech Experience, to enable teachers to bring biotechnology into their classrooms.

A certificate of attendance will be provided after the event.

The Royal Society of Biology reserves the right to cancel or reschedule a training event up to 10 working days before the event is due to take place. A full refund will be issued.
If the Royal Society of Biology is required to cancel or reschedule a training event with under 10 working days' notice due to unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be issued and 50% of attendee prepaid travel will be compensated.
