Guided tour of a 350ha woodland including an arboretum in order to celebrate the 2018 Fascination of Plants Day.
Heartwood is 350ha Woodland Trust site (2 miles across and with 20km of mown paths). Dr Brian Legg FRSB and colleagues will lead a guided tour of the vast new forest. There are over half a million trees, pockets of ancient wood and wildflower meadows and fantastic wildlife to discover. We will also go on a tour of the arboretum, which is the only one in the UK to contain all 60 of our native trees.

There is about 4km of all ability path that starts at the car park and goes through both newly planted and ancient woodland. It is suitable for a wheelchair, though with a hill making a push ok, but quite hard work. Please indicate on booking if you require special access to visit the Arboretum as Dr Brian Legg has offered to seek permission for a driven tour. Most of the area is short mown grass and quite acceptable for a vehicle with normal clearance.
Please note: There are no toilets on site
. There are public toilets in Sandridge, which guests can visit before meeting at the Heartwood car park. There are also toilets in the pub at lunchtime.
Heartwood Forest lies on either side of the B651, sandwiched between Harpenden, Wheathampstead and Sandridge; 4.8km (three miles) north of St Albans in Hertfordshire and only 32km (20 miles) from central London.
