Saying goodbye to the RSB's Director of Communications and Public Affairs
Date: 2 Apr 2026
Today we bid a fond farewell to our Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Susie Rabin MRSB.
Susie joined the RSB in May 2022 to lead the RSB's Parliamentary engagement and manage communications, outreach, and engagement work. In that time, she has seen the RSB evolve and progress through many changes.
Over the last four years she chaired and led four Voice of the Future events – an annual parliamentary event organised by the RSB for the Parliamentary Steering Group (PSG). The events give early-career researchers the opportunity to ask Parliamentarians and advisors their most pressing STEM questions.
A notable highlight was overseeing Biology Week, an annual week of bioscience events, culminating in our best ever and most engaged Biology Week in 2025, thanks to her team, the RSB Events team, and some amazing Member Organisations (MOs) and RSB members.
Susie particularly enjoyed re-establishing the RSB's Citizen Science work, including the Signs of Spring project (with Field Studies Council) and the endless newsworthy issue of flying ant day. It was a rewarding area which she did a lot of media work on, including television and radio interviews. She also met with inspiring winners of the RSB's School Biology Teacher of the Year competition year on year and many of the children who won the RSB's art competitions.
From organising Parliamentary Links Day (for the PSG) and then chairing the main panel session at it, only a few weeks into the job, to overseeing the new brand and website launch in early 2025, Susie has been instrumental in delivering on the RSB's targets and vision.
Reflecting on her time at the RSB, Susie said: "It's been an amazing four years at RSB. I've loved working with my amazing team, and so many lovely colleagues, meeting numerous people who are so involved in and inspired by the biosciences and learning so much about the world of biology. My biggest take away – there isn't just one flying ant day!"
We wish Susie all the best for her future work endeavours.
The RSB is now undergoing a restructuring phase which will include the amalgamation of two departments and the recruitment of some new positions. Further updates will be available via our social media channels and the RSB team webpage over the next few months.
