RSB Fellows recognised in King’s Birthday Honours 2025

The RSB is delighted to announce that three of its Fellows have been recognised in King Charles III’s Birthday Honours list for 2025, which acknowledges outstanding achievements of people across the United Kingdom.

The following RSB Fellows have been honoured:

Professor Julie Fitzpatrick CBE FRSB
Professor Shirley Price OBE FRSB

Professor Robert Chilcott MBE FRSB, Emeritus Professor of Toxicology, University of Hertfordshire, has been recognised for services to National Security.

Toxicologist Professor Chilcott worked at the University of Hertfordshire from 2008 until his retirement in 2025, retaining an Emeritus position at the University. He has been a subject matter expert on UK, EU, and US Government committees and has led a number of international research collaborations, most recently culminating in the implementation of new US federal guidance on the emergency services’ response to chemical incidents. Professor Chilcott has published a number of peer-reviewed articles, patents, textbooks, and book chapters relating to chemical warfare agents, dermal toxicology, and decontamination.

Mr John Davies MBE FRSB, Associate Professor of Biomedical Science Practice, University of Staffordshire, received the award for services to the NHS Diagnostic Pathology Service and to Biomedical Science Education.

Mr Davies worked for the NHS for 20 years as lead biomedical scientist and operational manager within the Department of Clinical Chemistry at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust prior to moving to work in academia full time in 2015 at the University of Staffordshire. He has been decorated with several awards including the NHS England Chief Scientific Officer’s Award for ‘Excellence in Education Delivery’, the Advancing Healthcare Award for ‘Inspiring the Future Biomedical Workforce’, and the prestigious UK Advancing Healthcare Award of ‘Biomedical Scientist of the Year’ for his national profile of leading innovative education and practice development in Biomedical Science.

Professor Julie Fitzpatrick CBE FRSB, Chief Scientific Adviser, Scottish Government, received the accolade for services to Science.

Professor Fitzpatrick is Scientific Director of the Moredun Research Institute and Chair in Food Security at the University of Glasgow. She was appointed Chief Scientific Adviser for Scotland in 2021. Professor Fitzpatrick is a veterinary graduate of the University of Glasgow; her PhD was in mucosal immunology at the University of Bristol and she has a Masters in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Julie’s personal research experience is on infectious diseases of cattle, sheep, and goats with particular emphasis on mastitis, welfare, and developing countries. She takes a particular interest in policy-focussed research, development, and commercialisation in the fields of preventing infectious disease, sustainable food production, and food security.

Professor Shirley Price OBE FRSB, Emerita Professor of Toxicology at the University of Surrey, received the award for services to Industry and Consumer Protection.

Professor Price is currently Emerita Professor of Toxicology at the University of Surrey having held a number of senior posts at the University. Professor Price has, over the course of her academic career, been instrumental in providing training programmes in toxicology to industry, regulators, and academics, and forming strong personal networks. Professor Price currently chairs the British Toxicology Society Skills (BTS) Gap Initiative Steering Committee and Advisory Board. Professor Price is also a Visiting Professor of Toxicology at the University of Hertfordshire, holds an Honorary Professorship in Toxicology with the UKHSA, is a trustee of the British Toxicology Society and the Carbon Monoxide Research Trust (CORT), and she also sits on the RSB's Outreach & Engagement Working Group committee.
