A workshop exploring advancements in microscopy technology
This workshop will take place from Sunday 12th to Wednesday 15th October 2025.
This workshop aims to democratise microscopy by addressing its accessibility and applicability in the Global South. Bringing together early-career researchers and global experts, the event focuses on fostering collaboration, building capacity, and sharing innovations in microscopy technology and applications.
Participants will explore how microscopy—a multidisciplinary tool spanning biology, medicine, materials science, and ecology—can address pressing challenges in planetary health and One Health. Discussions will include leveraging microscopy to study biodiversity, disease mechanisms, antimicrobial resistance, agriculture, and the effects of environmental pollutants.
The workshop also highlights open hardware and software projects, emphasising how these can be adapted to the needs of researchers in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Topics covered include:
- Advances in microscopy techniques: lightsheet, FLIM, cryo-EM, and AFM
- Open hardware and software for accessible microscopy and image analysis
- The role of microscopy in addressing regional research challenges
- Outreach, dissemination, and open science initiatives in microscopy
- Microscopy in education and its application in the Global South
- Opportunities and resources for Global South researchers
