Meet the Universities

Meet the Universities took place on 18 June 2015 at The Royal College of Surgeons and offered a unique opportunity to engage with prospective students, promote biological science departments and bioscience courses. Meet the Universities is dedicated to 16-19 year old students interested in studying the biosciences at university.

For more information about participating in Meet the Universities 2016, please email the Accreditation Team.

Employer engagement

Advanced Degree Accreditation was developed to help bridge the skills gaps between undergraduate study and employment in the biosciences. Over the past 18 months, the Accreditation Team has been working to engage and inform bioscience graduate employers of the aims and purpose of Advanced Degree Accreditation.

Best practice

Advanced Degree Accreditation aims to drive up the standards of learning and teaching in the biosciences. Throughout the assessment process, universities will reflect on the needs of their students and how their degree programmes prepare students to enter research positions within the life sciences. Advanced Degree Accreditation will enable sharing of this best practice throughout the sector.

Meeting the needs of the students

In 2011, we conducted a survey of undergraduate and postgraduate students studying the life sciences in the UK, and recent graduates. 90% of respondents felt it was important to gain work experience during their studies. With students taking a more market-based approach to their education, Advanced Degree Accreditation helps students seeking careers in research and innovation to make informed choices about their higher education.

Making an application

Before making an application you should familiarise yourself with the advanced accreditation criteria and assessment process; detailed information about this can be found in the Advanced Accreditation Handbook.
