School Biology Teacher of the Year Award

About the award

The School Biology Teacher of the Year Award aims to recognise the very best and most inspiring teachers.

The award celebrates teachers who demonstrate:

  • Outstanding and inspirational teaching of Biology
  • Inspiring pupils beyond the classroom by supporting high quality extra-curricular learning opportunities both in and outside of the classroom setting
  • Delivering inspirational INSET training for colleagues to share best practice in the teaching of Biology and spreading their enthusiasm for the subject
  • Influencing the teaching and learning of Biology beyond their own institution in other schools or educational settings

Prizes

The winner of the 2018 award will receive £500 for themselves, £500 of Oxford University Press resources for their school, and also one year’s free membership of the Royal Society of Biology at the appropriate grade.

How to apply

The award is open to all teachers who are working with students aged 11-18 years old, teaching pre-university level biology programmes of study, and currently employed in a UK based school or college.

The award process has two stages: an initial detailed nomination supported by a senior colleague, which is followed by a short-listing of up to three candidates who are assessed in further detail including a school visit. 

Individuals can enter by being nominated, either by themselves, a colleague, parent/guardian of a student, school governor or head teacher, using our application form by Friday 22nd December 2017.
