About the award

The Higher Education Bioscience Technician of the Year Award seeks to recognise the superb work of technical staff, which underpins the bioscience research and teaching at all levels in universities across the UK and Ireland.

The award recognises technical staff who are:

  1. Applying professional technical knowledge and expertise
  2. Acquiring & effectively applying personal/professional development
  3. Making a positive impact and inspiring others
  4. Demonstrating  leadership & collaboration
  5. Delivering innovation and efficiency

Background

The Higher Education Bioscience Technician of the Year Award has been developed jointly by the Royal Society of Biology and the University Bioscience Managers Association (UBMA). The inaugural awards will be awarded at the UBMA 35th Annual Conference at Imperial College London on Thursday 19th April.

Prizes

There will be prizes awarded for 1st and 2nd place, consisting of £400 & £200 respectively to spend as they wish, one year’s free Membership of the Royal Society of Biology at the appropriate grade, one year’s free Registered Science Technician registration (upon receipt of successful application) and invitation to one day of the UBMA conference to accept award and certificate at the conference dinner.

How to apply

The award is open to all technical staff, at any stage in their career, employed in a teaching, research or management role in the HE bioscience sector in UK and Ireland. Individuals can enter by being nominated, either by themselves or a colleague, using our application form by noon on Thursday 30th November 2017.
